Apache Geronimo v2.1 - Released

The Apache Geronimo project is pleased to announce the new v2.1 release. This release represents the latest open source Java Enterprise Edition 5.0 application server from the Apache Geronimo project, and continues the evolution of the Apache Geronimo server by adding new features and capabilities to a fully compliant and certified Java Enterprise Edition 5.0 container suitable for everything from a development environment to enterprise-level deployments.

Significant changes in this release include custom server assembly capabilities, a more flexible Administration Console, a command-line processing environment, enhanced clustering support for web applications and a server monitoring plugin. See the RELEASE-NOTES-2.1.TXT for further details.

The Apache Geronimo project is pleased to announce the new v2.0.2 release. Potential vulnerability in Apache Tomcat Webdav servlet

We have learned of a security vulnerability in the Apache Tomcat Webdav Servlet implementation. If you use the Tomcat distribution of Geronimo and configure a write-enabled Webdav servlet, you may be affected by this vulnerability. If you do not configure the Webdav servlet or configure read-only Webdav servlets, you are not impacted by this vulnerability. Jetty configurations of Geronimo are not affected by this vulnerability.

This vulnerability impacts all Geronimo releases. Up to and including Geronimo 2.0.2. Read the full article for further details and workaround.

Apache Geronimo 2.0-M1 has been released and is available for user download.

This version of Geronimo represents a point in time view into our progress towards a Java Enterprise Edition 5.0 Server runtime. It includes the latest Jetty and Tomcat servlet engines so users can experiment with Servlet 2.5, JSP 2.1 as well as JSF 1.1 and JSTL 1.2. Also included is Apache's OpenJPA for Java Persistence as well as the latest Javamail 1.4 and Java Activation Framework. This is a milestone release so it is not recommended for high load deployments. The Apache Geronimo team would very much like user feedback so we can meet your needs as we continue the Drive to Five.

Apache Geronimo 1.2-beta is available for user download and evaluation.

Apache Geronimo 1.2 includes several new features. They are Global JNDI support, OpenJPA as a persistence option, improved performance for EJBs as well as new locking support for CMP entity beans. This release has not yet passed the TCK. Apache Yoko has also been included and we are in the process of certifying this release on a Java 5 Virtual Machine. Geronimo v1.1.1 Certified on Azul Compute Appliances

The Apache Geronimo Project is pleased to announce the J2EE 1.4 Certification of Apache Geronimo v1.1.1 running on an Azul Compute Appliance. The testing was performed on an Azul Compute Appliance Model 1920B (8 chip / 192 cores, 64GB memory) coupled with Azul VM release 2.3.1.2 (HotSpotJava 1.4.2_12), 64-bit Server mode. Geronimo v1.1.1 has been released and is available for user download

Apache Geronimo v1.1.1 is mainly a bug-fix release, as such it addresses most of the bugs reported from the v1.1 release. Along with these fixes, this release provides improvements in usability such as:

Ability to select multiple driver jars when defining data sources.
Restored functionality for configuring certificates and managing the key store.
Customized warning messages in the Geronimo Administration Console.

Apache Geronimo First OSS App Server With JBI Support

The standard Apache Geronimo deployer now supports JBI deployment units - any jar which includes META-INF/jbi.xml) - in order to auto-deploy JBI components and serivce assemblies. JBI support provided by the ServiceMix Open Source Enterprise Service Bus. We will be acquiring a TCK license to certifiy that we conform to the JSR-208 standard.
