Most common startup issues are associated to port conflicts, check no other application is using or blocking Geronimo's default ports:
Personal firewalls, antivirus and spyware protection products may block these ports, even if you turn off such software sometimes those "rules" are still in effect. Keep this in mind if you can not run Geronimo out-of-the-box.
